HDI, a start up company in Los Gatos, has announced that they have a 100" Laser Driven TV that is capable of producing 3D Images in Full 1080P resolution at 1000 fps. The new technology is supposed to cost less money to manufacture than Plasma or LCD and consumes 20% of the energy than that of a plasma TV. The Laser is divided into three colors; Red, Green, and Blue. With the refresh rate of more than 1000 frames per second that means that after separating the image into colors, each color reaches your eye at 360 frames per second. Your standard TVs refresh rate is 60 fps. The increased frame rate cuts down on motion blur, allowing the viewer to see a more crisp picture and in turn getting rid of the nausea that some viewers experience when watching 3D. There are currently about 30 3D movies released per year, however that number is expected to increase. According to Screen Digest, 1.2 million 3-D-capable sets are forecasted in U.S. homes by the end of next year, but that number is expected to rise to 9.7 million - or 8 percent of households - by the end of 2013. The company is expected to start releasing its TVs to the public markets in 2010. I don't know about you, but I sure am excited.
