So I just thought that I'd talk a little about the new iPhone 4S. I just got mine a few days ago and I absolutely think its the greatest phone ever. Siri is a really cool new feature that basically lets you ask anything and get a pretty accurate response! for instance you can say "Siri, find me a flat screen tv installer" and it will return a search of businesses in your local Area.

Another really neat feature that Theater Monster is using is credit card procesing through Square. Square is a service that allows customers to swipe their credit cards for products and services using an Application on an iPad or iPhone. This App has really come in handy with our business, it makes it super fast and easy to collect payment and it will even automatically send a receipt to our customers via email or text.

I have been using iCal a ton lately, It really helps us keep track of our current projects and upcoming meetings and events. With the onset of the new iCloud from Apple, it makes it easy to have your calendar with you everywhere you go. All i have to do is make an appointment on my desktop and it automatically syncs to my iPad and iPhone.

Mitsubishi HC6800 Projector Review

Welcome to our in-depth projector review of the Mitsubishi HC6800 1080p home theater projector.

Mitsubishi HC6800 Projector Overview

The Mitsubishi HC6800 home projector is the middle of three 1080p home theater projectors from the fine people at Mitsubishi. It is stradded by the rather excellent and award winning HC3800 - a low cost DLP projector selling for under $1500, and the more expensive, ultra-high contrast HC7000.

Like the more expensive model, the HC6800 projector is marketed only through local dealers. As is typical that means it will sell for more than a similar product that is available online. For those of us who are not DIY - do it yourself - types, this isn't a big deal. If you are hiring a home theater dealer to handle your installation, then you aren't likely to pay much premium. Dealers do have to make a living. If you want a local dealer, for example, to install a projector you buy elsewhere, somehow, some way, they will end up with more income on the installation, as they will no doubt be trying to make up for the lost profits on the projector.

But, it's time to discuss the HC6800 itself.

The HC6800 sells for $3499.99, but that's still a good bit more expensive than the most obvious competition, such as the Epson Home Cinema 8100 but about the same price as the Pro Cinema 9100. Epson, offers the 8100 online, and the 9100 is an almost identical product but sells for a lot more through local installing dealers only. In other words, the Mitsubishi HC6800's direct dealer equivalent model is the 9100, and based on that one, the HC6800 price is reasonable for a local install only type projector of its calibre.

But, it's time to discuss the HC6800 itself. The first thing I do want to point out, is that it is far brighter than the more expensive HC7000. In fact, Mike measured it, post calibration at 589 lumens in "best" mode. I do believe that makes it the brightest "best" mode, LCD projector we've seen in a year, though a number of LCoS projectors are in the range. Only the LG CF181D, so far, of the LCoS projectors is both near the Mitsubishi's price, and is brighter. A couple of DLP's also can best the HC6800 in best mode.

The point is the HC6800 home projector has a goodly amount of lumens and that will allow it to do well, with say, a 110" diagonal screen in a typical darkened environment, or maybe even a 120" diagonal. It can be pushed a bit larger than the Epsons and some others, but really only by an extra 6-12 inches diagonal.

The HC6800 does have a dynamic iris, and an impressive contrast ratio number, but, it really does not have the black level performance to take on projectors like the Panasonic PT-AE4000, the Epson "UB" projectors, Sanyo Z3000, and I presume, the newly announced PLV-Z4000. Nor can it match the better DLP's in blacks, such as the BenQ W6000, another direct competitor. But, we'll deal more with those issues later in the report. On the other hand, it's black performance is in line with the aforementioned Epson 8100/9100, the LG CF181D and other competitors.

The HC6800 is in some ways, elegant. It looks good, it's power everything - zoom, focus, and lens shift. Styling is, well, more styled than most, and nicely done in it's black case. In that regard it bests projectors like the Epson's which are nothing to look at, and manual everything. Ergonomically, it's better than most.

HC6800 Projector Highlights

Above average "best" mode for movie watching - with almost 600 lumens
Slightly below average in "brightest" mode
Very good post calibration color accuracy
Skin tones and overall color look very good and accurate, but not the most natural - still, though, impressive
Very sharp image - Mitsubishi projectors seem to be consistently sharper than other LCD projectors and the LCoS projectors, though still bested by a number of DLP projectors.
Very good placement flexibility
Dynamic iris improves blacks but the projector still doesn't qualify as an ultra-high contrast model based on black performance.
A somewhat green projector - low wattage lamp is one of the lowest drawing in the home theater industry at 170 maximum. Note that even the Casio Greenslim XJ-A140 biz projector with its hybrid LED/laser light source draws only slightly less power. Nasty: Projector draws 7 watts in standby

HC6800 Projector - Special Features

The HC6800 isn't particularly endowed with lots of features, nor is it stripped down.

Frame Interpolation

The HC6800 home theater projector does offer FI - frame interpolation, but not CFI (creative frame interpolation). That is to say, it will take a 24 fps movie, and insert one frame between each two, doubling the count to 48 fps. This helps with one type of motion blurring. CFI actually creates a different frame, between each too, not just repeating the first frame. For CFI, you need to move up to the Mitsubishi HC7000. Still, the move to 48fps is helpful.

Color Management System (CMS)

The HC6800 projector has a perfectly respectable color management system, including access to tuning individual colors. it's got all the basics needed for a professional calibration.

Mitsubishi HC6800 Projector: Dynamic Iris

Mitsubishi talks a lot about their improved iris design and action, noting in particular that it is designed to deal with scenes that change back and forth quickly. That's a huge plus, and they do have one of the smoother iris actions out there.

Their solution seems to be notably effective with one type of situation very common in movies. That would be a couple of people talking in a darker room. With the background not very bright, the iris can do its thing, but, cutting back from the shot of one person, to another (lets say one has a whitish shirt, and the other a medium blue. As those would be the brightest large objects in our scene, the iris would open more, for the scene with the blue shirt, and as the scene cuts back every few seconds, you get to see the iris open and close. With the Mits, they observe each frame, looking for fast transitions (back and forth) that are repeated, and makes adjustments to the iris action to improve it. Well done!

New Home Theater in Temecula Ca

Just recently Finished a new Home Theater Design with Complete Installation of Auido/Video Components.

Pre Wire

This Project was located in The Temecula Wineries in Temecula, Ca. We started with 2 bedrooms which shared a common wall, we the Demolished the Common wall to make way for new Home Theater. Now that we had one large space to work with, we started Designing the Layout of the new space. It was to include a 120" Stewart Film Screen, JVC Projector, 6 Reclining Theater Seats, (2) Tower Speakers, (1) LCR Bookshelf Speaker and (4) Episode ES-700-IW-6In-wall Speakers. Once we had our System Designed We procedded to Wire the new space for our components, as well as Lighting , and Electrical Outlets.

Construction

This project involved a minimal amount of Construction as far as Home Theaters go. Basically it needed one wall demolished, one of the existing closets got framed out to make room for a mini kitchen and the Head end for our components, The other major item was the elevated Deck in the rear of the room for our Second row of Theater Seating. After We had everything framed, we then drywalled, textured, then painted and our Theater Was one the home stretch. All that was needed now was to finish installing the A/V Components.

Installing Components, Trim, and Finish Work

We Finished up the Home Theater by first installing all of our speakers and lighting in the walls and ceilings. After All the components we completely installed, we called for carpet installation. Once the carpet was installed, we placed our Tower Speakers, Subwoofers and Theater Seats in the room, Connected The Pioneer SC-05 AV Receiver, LG Blu-Ray Player and Verizon Fios Cable Box. We added a NEVO SL70 Remote Control with Nevo Connect for Simple Control over the entire System.

We started with an empty bonus room; framed out the front wall and rear deck. We then pre-wired for all audio/video components and lighting. Afterwards we drywalled, textured and painted. we finished by install the final components, carpeting, and furniture.

Icefilms and XBMC via AppleTV

Hey Everybody I just recently got myself an AppleTV and Jailbroke it. I have been playing around with Add-ons and plugins and one that i am especially pumped on is Icefilms. Icefilms is basically a collaboration of every Movie and TV show imaginable. I mean they literally have everything from the first to the last episode of "All in the family" to the latest movie releases in Full High Def. I would Highly Recommend Purchasing an AppleTV for your home entertainment set-up.

Below Is a tutorial That I copied to show you how to get Icefilms on your Jailbroken Apple TV. I may Decide to add a video of my own to show you how my apple TV works. Anyway if you guys want and endless supply of movies and TV shows without having to pay for a subscription like Netflix, then Check out Icefilms on your Apple TV or and XBMC capable device.

A new XBMC plugin has been released called IceFilms. This plugin will allow you to stream movies and TV shows from MegaUpload to your AppleTV using the XBMC player for your jailbroken AppleTV 2G. First jailbreak your ATV using our Seas0nPass 4.3 Tutorial then follow our XBMC AppleTV Tutorial to get XBMC installed on your ATV 2G. After you have done that, follow the tutorial below to install the IceFilms plugin.

Step 1: Download this zip file ( make sure to leave it as a .zip file )

Step 2: Upload the zip file to your AppleTV. Use either an AFC2 app or openSSH to make an SFTP connection to the AppleTV’s IP address (find it in the ATV’s settings), username ‘root’ password ‘alpine’ (which is the default for ATV). The .zip files goes in the/private/var/mobile/Media folder. Once there, launch XBMC on your ATV, go to settings, Addons Manager, and select the Install from zip file (it’s in there somewhere…easy to find).

Step 3: Once you’re done, just install IceFilms ( and anything else you like – not necessarily working though ) and that’s it…

Updating the repo/addon

Updates are pushed out via the repo. Users should be notified in XBMC when there are new updates.If you know there is an update but the repo is listing an older version, you are most likely having an issue on your end.

To fix this, you have 2 options:

Reinstall the add-on
Reinstall the repo and addon (start over)

When you first install the addon, you will be prompted to download the metadata container. This file is a 230 mb zip that will serve as the source of the movie information and poster images. Metadata is not scraped via the normal routines as it would take forever each time you loaded the addon. It was designed this way as a system work around to long waits.

How to Install a Custom Home Theater System

If you're keen on watching movies at home in as good an environment as in the local cinema, find a spare room and add your own home theater. Steps

Determine if the size of the room you're using for the home theater will allow for a projection system or not. Projectors have different "throw" ranges. The "throw" is determined by the distance the projector is from the screen.
- Look up the throw ratio of your projector either online prior to purchasing it, or in the manual if you already own one or you're shopping in-store.
Design the layout. You do not want the projector to be close to a window or doorway. If there are windows in the room, the best possible scenario would be for the projector and screen to be perpendicular to the windows or doors.
- Avoid having the projector firing towards or away from a window.
Select your preferred seating arrangements. Choose whatever suits your particular style. This is where it pays to have a creative imagination (and a little extra money). You may want to build a platform to give your theater elevated seating. Such a platform can also double as a place to hide the subwoofer.
Choose the speaker placement. Speakers should be placed in these positions: left front, center, right front, right rear, left rear, and subwoofer. If you're using a 7.1 system, then add right surround and left surround speakers. Make sure not to place the rear speakers too low on the wall when using in-wall speakers, as this could cause the sound to be too loud in certain scenes and drown out the center channel speaker.
Choose a location for all of the home theater components. Place the components in the same room that you're building the theater in; however, if you're tight on space these components may be remotely located in another room.
- If you're remotely locating the equipment, don't forget that you're going to need to set up either an IR remote control system with repeater or an RF remote control with RF base station to allow for control of the AV equipment.
Start building. Frame out the seating platform using 2"x6" (5cm x 15cm) studs. Ensure that this is extremely sturdy because this platform will have 4 or 6 chairs and the weight of 4 to 6 people on it. Also cover the platform with 7/16" (11.11mm) OSB (oriented strand board). Make sure that you use liquid nails before you nail the decking on the platform. This will eliminate any rattling from the subwoofers.
- You may decide to frame out a false wall where the projection screen is going. If so, do not recess the screen more than about 10" or 12" (25.4cm or 30.48cm) max; any more than that will cause an annoying reflection on the wall from the images on the screen.
- Now is the time to frame out a cabinet for your equipment and a housing for your projector.
Wire your home theater. Start with the speaker wires, audio/video cables, HDMI, and any other low voltage cables like cat5. Make sure that you do not run these wires parallel to any electrical (Romex) wires. Install a few can lights and wall sconces on dimmer switches to give it more of a "theater feel".
- If you're not an electrician, hire one! Electricity is dangerous and it can kill you! In some jurisdictions, it is illegal to do your own electrical work, so know the rules.
Choose your finishes. Get creative here as well. Use a waynes coating (wainscoating) and crown molding to give your theater a more expensive feel. Paint the walls and the ceiling, you may choose whatever color you like for the walls, just as long as it has no sheen.
- All paint should be flat to minimize reflection.
- The ceiling should be painted black.
- Use carpet instead of tile or hardwood. Carpet will help absorb excess sound and will improve the sound quality of the room.
Now all that you have left is installing your equipment and furniture.
- Add the chairs (comfortable ones, of course).
- Add the screen.
- Invite your friends over and watch some movies!

Save all pieces of drywall that you cut out for your drywaller; he can re-use them and it could help cut down on the cost of getting your walls patched.
Programming your remote control can be very tedious, but you can find instructional videos on YouTube.
Make sure the location that you choose for your equipment is well ventilated, as overheating is a big problem with powerful amplifiers and A/V receivers.
If you want to cut down on excess noise escaping from your theater, add additional insulation to the walls and ceiling. You can also add sound board and thicker drywall to help absorb sound waves.

This type of installation is advanced.
You should always use caution when doing any type of construction. Make sure that when you work with electricity you cut the breaker at the panel before touching any wires. If you aren't skilled handling construction with electricity, call an electrician to do any electrical upgrades for you.

Ok so here it is, In simple bullet points using terminology that you can easily understand.

Plasma TV

Cons

Consumes a lot of energy (the most out of the 3)

Typically Deeper (not as flat against the wall)

There is a high probability that images will get "Burned" into the screen. This means that after you change the channel you may still see a trace of what you were watching on the previous channel. Ex: you know how on the news they have the time and temp in the lower right corner? Images like that can harm a plasma TV. Which leads me to my next point.

Bad for playing Video Games

Pros

Really, Really Good Contrast Ratios. (best range of color)

great for fast moving action.

Typically less expensive.

Plasma TV's come in sizes up to 110".

Great For a Dedicated Home Theater, If a Projector is not an option.

LCD

Cons

Limited Contrast (typically not as Vivid as a Plasma, but hardly noticeable)

Limited on Size (LCD's only go up to 55", But that is usually plenty for most people)

Hey If anyone is planning on getting married anytime soon, Here is a great place in the wineries of Temecula, Ca. Its called Lake Oak Meadows. I just recently finished up a huge audio system for these folks. Everywhere you go on the property music can be heard through these neat in-ground speakers. They have an extremely cool outdoor dance patio complete with DJ lights and 6 Speakers. There is a huge mann made lake with live koi fish in it, the lake has 3 fountains that light up and shoot fire at night. They have these paddle boats that you can paddle around the lake on too. Its a pretty amazing place, the owners name is frank, tell him i sent ya. Here is the link to their website.

So for about the last week we have been working on putting together a brand new website for Theater Monster Inc. Our Hopes is that it will be more user friendly. We will have a "Home Theater" Section which will detail exactly what goies into the process of making a home theater. We will also have a "restaurants and bars" section, which will detail how theater monster can help your establishment make a lasting impression. There will also be a section on "presentation systems" for office buildings, and for home owners, a section on Flat panel TV's, which should help clarify some of the differences between LED, LCD, and plasma TV's. we will also be updating our picture gallery, so look forward to seeing some new images from theater monster.

3-D TV is coming soon to your living room

HDI, a start up company in Los Gatos, has announced that they have a 100" Laser Driven TV that is capable of producing 3D Images in Full 1080P resolution at 1000 fps. The new technology is supposed to cost less money to manufacture than Plasma or LCD and consumes 20% of the energy than that of a plasma TV. The Laser is divided into three colors; Red, Green, and Blue. With the refresh rate of more than 1000 frames per second that means that after separating the image into colors, each color reaches your eye at 360 frames per second. Your standard TVs refresh rate is 60 fps. The increased frame rate cuts down on motion blur, allowing the viewer to see a more crisp picture and in turn getting rid of the nausea that some viewers experience when watching 3D. There are currently about 30 3D movies released per year, however that number is expected to increase. According to Screen Digest, 1.2 million 3-D-capable sets are forecasted in U.S. homes by the end of next year, but that number is expected to rise to 9.7 million - or 8 percent of households - by the end of 2013. The company is expected to start releasing its TVs to the public markets in 2010. I don't know about you, but I sure am excited.
